-- Iran eyes 3.5 mbd refining capacity by 2026: Minister
Iranian Minister of Petroleum Javad Owji said plans are underway to bring the country’s refining capacity to 3.5 million barrels per day, from the currently 2.2 mbd within the next 4-5 years.
Speaking to reporters following a visit to Tehran Refinery on Friday, Owji said, “God willing, according to the defined schedule for existing refineries and new refineries, in the next four to five years, the capacity of the country’s refineries will increase one and a half times.
-- President Raeisi braves pandemic, keeps visiting less developed areas
Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi is determined to address problems faced by people, particularly those living in the country’s less developed areas, by keeping direct contacts with them.
During an unannounced visit to Tabas, the eastern Iranian province of South Khorasan, on Friday, he defied the coronavirus pandemic to keep direct contact with the local people.
He has placed unannounced provincial visit on agenda since taking office as Iran’s eighth president to assess the situation and identify the needs, issues and priorities in person.
-- Mt. Sabalan’s global registration process to be accelerated
The registration process of Iran’s Mount Sabalan on the list of world monuments will be accelerated with the recently-presented documents, according to Ardebil Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Department.
“With the efforts made, new documents for Mt. Sabalan have been prepared, which will accelerate the process of its global registration, said Nader Fallahi, the head of the northwestern province’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Department.
Iran is preparing an all-inclusive dossier for Mt. Sabalan to have the inactive volcano registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The volcanic mountain is situated in Ardebil Province, in the northwest of the country.

-- Minister: Fakhra Cleared for Emergency Use
Defense Minister Brigadier General Muhammad Reza Ashtiani said Thursday the third stage of clinical trial of Iran’s domestically-developed Fakhra coronavirus vaccine has begun and the shot has been authorized by the Health Ministry for emergency use.
Speaking during a visit to the production line of the vaccine, Ashtiani said the Defense Ministry is currently capable of producing about one million doses of the Fakhra vaccine on a monthly basis, emphasizing that with the finalization of the necessary infrastructure in the next three months, the production would speed up.
-- Iran Warns IAEA Ahead of Board Meeting
Iran’s representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna on Thursday warned that any counterproductive measure against Tehran during the forthcoming meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors can jeopardize talks to revive the 2015 nuclear deal.
“IAEA cannot disassociate itself from the destiny of the JCPOA. Any counterproductive action disrupts the negotiation process,” Kazem Gharibabdi tweeted.
The IAEA produced two reports on September 7, accusing Iran of restricting monitoring of its nuclear sites and not responding to requests for information about traces of nuclear material allegedly found by inspectors last year.
-- Oil Ministry Increases Gasoline Storage Capacity to 3bn Liters
Iranian Oil Ministry says gasoline storage capacity in the country has increased by nearly 70% to 3 billion liters as the government seeks to improve its control over supplies to the domestic and foreign markets.
A Thursday report by the official IRNA agency said that Iran had briefly halted exports of gasoline to boost supplies in its storage houses as the country nears the cold months of the year when demand for fuel is expected to rise.
The report said an average of 36 million liters of gasoline produced per day by domestic refiners go to storage houses while around 84 million liters are consumed mainly by motorists in the country.

-- Iran and developments in its eastern neighbor
In response to the developments in Afghanistan over the past month or so, Iran has emphasized the need to avoid fratricide and prevent foreign interference in its eastern neighbor, and has stated that it will do everything it can to help end the suffering of the Afghan people and form an inclusive government.
The Fars news agency in a report on Tuesday wrote that “following the recent developments in Afghanistan, we have witnessed the announcement of positions and also efforts by the Islamic Republic of Iran to establish peace and stability in this country.”
Iran has hosted millions of its Afghan brothers and sisters for the past four decades, and as Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh says, Iran has never had anything but kinship with the Afghan people.
-- Bank loans to economic sectors up over 51% in 5 months
Iranian banking system has paid 9.007 quadrillion rials (over $214.47 billion) of facilities to domestic economic sectors in the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-August 22), registering a 51.3-percent rise from the same period in the previous year, IRNA reported.
According to the data provided by the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), banks had paid 5.952 quadrillion rials (about $141.7 billion) of facilities to various economic sectors in the previous calendar year’s first five months.
As reported, working capital loans paid to different economic sectors in the mentioned five months were above 6.103 quadrillion rials (about $145.3 billion), accounting for 67.8 percent of the total provided facilities.
-- Iraq to double Iranians’ visa quota for Arbaeen ritual
Iraq has doubled its previously declared visa quota for the Iranian nationals willing to attend the Arbaeen pilgrimage.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, who is scheduled to visit the Islamic Republic in near future, has recently approved to grant “another 30,000 visas” to Iranian pilgrims, ISNA reported on Friday.
“Given the importance of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Iraqi government, as well as the inseparable friendship and unity of the two nations, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi has granted 30,000 visas to Iranian pilgrims in addition to another 30,000 visas which was previously dedicated to the friendly neighbor,” the news agency quoted a high-ranking Iraqi official.
